Who Are We?

Greetings and welcome to the Valley of the Sun West Highland White Terrier Club's official website. We are Westie lovers and Arizona's only AKC sanctioned Westie Club. Although our Club's events typically center in the Phoenix metropolitan area, we have and welcome members from all over Arizona as well as other states. Our Club is a great place to meet and socialize with other Westie owners as well as learn more about the breed and AKC activities involving Westies. Interested in finding out what we are all about? Please visit our Membership and Events pages for more information or contact our Membership Chairman. We hope you'll join us for our next upcoming event!

Our History

In 1977, six Westie enthusiasts, Hal & Maura Heubel, Ray & Deanna Schuster and Stephen & Janet Mahrley, met and decided that there must be enough spirit and interest to merit a Westie club and indeed there was! The Valley of the Sun West Highland White Terrier Club held their first meeting on September 20, 1977 with 20 guests in attendance. Much hard work and dedication over the years to follow led to the Club's first A-OA AKC Sanctioned Match on October 22, 1995 and the Club's first AKC Sanctioned Independent Specialty Show and Obedience Trial on November 22, 1996. And the rest they say...is history!
